The Japanese government continues to hunt minke, humpback and fin whales in the Southern Ocean despite it being a whale sanctuary where they migrate to feed and breed as well as a violation of the 1986 UN ban on commercial slaughter of whales.

Whales are intriguing, sentient, intelligent, gentle, beautiful, giant creatures.
